HOLI SKIN TIPS

Holi! A favorite for a lot of us. Vibrant colors, amazing food, dancing and lots more. At the end of the day, our skin and hair does take a toll. Perhaps a little precaution goes a long way.

Pre Holi care tips –
1. Moisturize – Before heading out to play apply abundant moisturizer or organic oil all over the body and hair. This helps prevent a lot of allergies, hydrates the skin so that it absorbs less color, acts as a protective shield and also helps with easier color removal later on.
2. Sunscreen – Abundant sunscreen atleast 20 mins before stepping out. Helps avoid that sun burn and tan.
3. Covering up – Try wearing cotton full sleeved clothing. This ensures minimum color contact with the skin and cotton as a fabric dries easy and is much lighter to use.
4. Nails – Color might stay under the nails and refuse to go. So let’s cut those nails short and paint them with dark nail paint to protect them.
5. Protecting those ears, lips and eyelashes – Apply some petroleum jelly on the outer portion of your ears which helps prevent color entering the inner portion.
6. Hydrate – Dehydrated skin is more prone to allergies and tanning. So let’s all drink a lot of water and juices.

Post Holi care tips –
1. Gentle wash – Use a gentle body soap and facewash with a loofah to get rid of the color. Make sure you do not over scrub as it leads to excess dryness and more itching.
2. Shampoo – Use a color protective shampoo. Massage into the hair for 3 mins and leave it in for 3 mins atleast. After the shampoo, apply a conditioner along the hair. Avoid using too hot water.
3. Moisturize
4. Avoid makeup – The chemicals in makeup might react with the color leading to allergies.
5. Face masks – Use natural homemade turmeric milk, curd and honey mixtures or a hydrating moisturizing mask.
6. Ice – Wrap ice in a cotton cloth and dab on your skin. Helps sooth the skin

Some of you make develop an allergic reaction to the colors, pre-existing acne and eczema might worsen, so please do go visit your dermatologist in Gurgaon or come see me as you might need a mild anti-bacterial or steroid to help heal your skin!

With all these points put into action, you do not have to worry about the colors creating havoc for you!

And before you start painting the town red, do gear your skin and hair up!
